2024 was a fantastic year for movies. I joined a Movie Club (think of a Book club... but for movies!) Which has been an amazing excuse to rewatch or see movies for the first time!
If you want to keep up to date with what im watching throughout the year make sure to friend/follow on [Letterboxd](https://letterboxd.com/ltfuzzyboots/)
And as always! If its not on the list it means I either:
1. Didn't Watch It 🙈
2. Didn't Like It 🙊
# Favourites
## Monkey Man
I don't want to pick favorites..... But if you've had siblings you all know that there is *always* a favourite... And Monkey Man is mine for the year 😅
There are editing tricks done in this movie that I think we will see replicated across Action Film for a while. Its one of the few movies on this list that I have watched multiple times since release (granted its also been out the longest!)
## Furiosa
He did it again! Fabulous from start to finish, immaculately edited, loved the evolution of the world of Mad Max while also digging into the history of some of the characters we know and love. I was surprised at how much the lead was shared between Anya Taylor Joy and Chris Hemsworth. Giving more screentime to the other (usually more interesting characters) in the mad max world is a step in the right direction for me!
And HOT DAYM that ending... Absolutely perfect!
## Dune Part 2
I dont even know what to say about this movie that hasnt been said. I have never read the books so I dont have a ton of history of passion for this universe. But the more I see of it through the eyes of Dennis Villeneuve the more I want to see!
## Inside Out 2
I lovely sequel to the first! I really enjoyed how much they made riley the main character in this one, while adding more onto the emotions. It moves on from Joy's story on how to manage Riley into more of a Riley learning how to maintain and control her emotions (even when the emotions try to take over!)
## Godzilla x Kong
What if you took a WWE match, replaced the humans with giant monsters. And just wanted to have some fun at a movie theater? Enter Godzilla X Kong!
The fact that we got an incredible introspective (and my movie of the year) Godzilla in Minus One followed up a few months later by this is one of the reasons I love movies in general.
## Sonic 3
These just keep getting better. We need more people having fun making the movies they are making, please! This is the kind of movie that *feels* like a labor of love.
Live and Learn!
# Movie Club Additions
Through the Movie Club I was reintroduced to a few older films that (somehow) missed my radar! Here are some of my favourite from that group!
## Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
How have I never seen this one. Absolutely incredible, visually stunning, great coreography, Now I kinda want to rewatch Hulk 2003 to see how it translated into Ang Lees next movie 🤣
## Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story
Why are we still making musical biopics? This one did it all, no need for any more please!
The beetles section in the bit may be one of if not my favourite Paul Rudd scenes in all of movies. Its so good 🤣
## Last Action Hero
Spoof/Reference movie done right! Lots of heart in the main character and a true love of cinema in general is what makes this movie works. It makes/pokes fun at the medium while showing it truely loves the things it jabbing at.
It helps that this is the kind of movie that took FOREVER to make, I've been hearing/reading that Schwartzenegger refused to film the movie initially due to a "lack of main story" which this movie ended up having in spades due to the audience seeing this world through the eyes of a movie lover.
Proof that a movie needs more than just an assembly line of all the franchises/IP's that a company owns, there needs to be some glue in the middle to hold it all together.
## Pans Labyrinth
I actually had watched this movie before but it was back in 2012 or something. I had to end up leaving the movie ~15-20 minutes before it finished. This year I FINALLY finished this movie.
